Lorde Reaches A New High On Thrilling ‘Melodrama’ Cut, ‘Sober’!

Praise the Lorde, it’s Friday! “But what will we do when we’re sober?

Lorde has had a pretty solid streak thus far in her Melodrama album campaign, from her soaring dance anthem “Green Light” to the heartbreaking “Liability,” and last week’s slight return-to-form “Perfect Places.” But now, three promotional singles deep, the mini-sized diva might have just hit us with one of her strongest yet before the album drops next week: “Sober“!

Written and produced alongside pop dreamteam Jack Antonoff, Kuk Harrell (Rihanna, Beyoncé, Justin Beiber, etc.) and Malay (Frank Ocean, Zayn, Alessia Cara, etc.), Lorde stays true to her newfound assured confidence while taking on a much bigger pop approach, supplying a substantial amount of abstract melodies between some infectious, understated pulsations.

King and Queen of the Weekend/ Ain’t a pill that could touch our rush (But what will we do when we’re sober?)/ When you dream with a fever/ Bet you wish you could touch our rush (But what will we do when we’re sober?),” Lorde declares, as the song infuses rumbling drums and delicate synths and slowly builds to include spirited horn stabs. “These are the games of the weekend/ We pretend that we just don’t care/ But we care…

It’s a complete rush from start to finish – I can’t wait to hear Part II!

Lorde’s latest “Sober” is also available on Spotify and Apple Music!
