“It’s a brand new start”: A new Miley Cyrus era is upon us!
Say goodbye to the wild and mostly-controversial, tounge-happy Bangerz Miley, it’s time for a simple, non-weed-smoking, more stripped-down Miley to take the spotlight – Destiny Hope Cyrus has risen!
“Malibu,” the first taste of what’s to come from her anticipated sixth studio album, makes it clear from the jump that it’s going to be a whole different Miley this time around (which has already racked up some criticism). The easy-breezy, summertime tune sees Miley ditching the hip-hop-driven beats of Bangerz and trading them in for folky, pop-rock acoustics as she sings her adoring tune to fiance Liam Hemsworth, who shot the cover art (shown above).
“I always thought I would sink, so I never swam/ I never went boatin’, don’t get how they are floatin’/ And sometimes I get so scared of what I can’t understand,” Miley softly sings with her signature country twang, before drifting off into the song’s very-soothing and pleasant catchy hook: “But here I am/ Next to you/ The sky’s more blue/ In Malibu/ Next to you/ In Malibu/ Next to you….“
It’s a TUNE of sorts, a non-confrontational tune you’d listen to on warm summer’s day, leaving your worries behind and embracing the wind. A hippie anthem, if you will.
But really, I do think this is the right move for Miley: Rather than attempting to one-up her twerk-ready collection of bops on 2013’s Bangerz, she’s swerved a little left and headed straight back into her roots instead. It’s a return-to-form, really, and I ain’t mad at it at all.
“Malibu” is also available on Spotify and Apple Music now!
