This week’s Song of the Week comes from Emmalyn!
The former G.R.L. singer-dancer-songstress first caught my attention with last year’s thrilling ode to a former fling “Hungover,” and now, she’s gone ahead and done it again with yet another impressive cut: “Phone Off,” produced by Dann Hume (Troye Sivan, Matt Corby, etc.).
The track sees Emmalyn diving into moody, hazy electro-R&B territory as she seduces her man and urges him to get off us phone and stay focused (on her, of course). “(Hold up) Why don’t you turn your phone off?/ (Hold up) Why don’t you take my clothes off?/ (Hold up) Why don’t we do the things that are in your head/ Since the night we met/ (Hold up) Baby come and lie down/ Just leave the light on, don’t be shy, no/ (Hold up) Why don’t we do the things that you say on text?/ What you waitin’ on,” she purrs above finger snaps, trap hi-hats, hard-hitting bass beats and chilly sighs in the distance.
Hypnotic minimal beats with the icy flow of Cassie‘s “Me & U” – it’s all sorts of sexy. Turn up, turn off your phone and get down with Emmalyn!
Emmalyn’s new single “Phone Off” is also available on Spotify and Apple Music!
