It’s only been two weeks since Paramore dropped “Hard Times” out of nowhere, and now, the fabulously talented Hayley Williams-fronted band are ready to keep things moving with yet another new offering from their upcoming album, After Laughter: “Told You So“!
Much like “Hard Times,” “Told You So” sees the pop-rock trio diving deeper into the sounds of their smash single “Ain’t It Fun” with cleaner, more rhythmic and new wave, sun-kissed textures of the ’80s. On this one, Hayley alludes to a combative relationship: “I know you like/ When I admit that I was wrong and you were right/ At least I try/ To keep my cool when I’m thrown into a fire,” she sings before diving into the song’s funky hook: “I hate to say I told you so/ But they love to say they told me so/ I hate to say I told you so/ They love to say they told me.”
I’m truly feeling this new wave from Paramore, it’s fresh, joyous and thoroughly them.
“Zac [Farro, drummer] noticed that my anxiety and overall state was just a lot more peaceful on those drives,” Hayley told The FADER about the visual, “and mentioned to me that it made him happy to see me rest for a moment. It means a lot that they conceptualized a video around a passing moment we had as friends. There’s darkness and suspense and then there’s a sense of unity in the full band shots in the car where we all wear red and dance together to the music.”
