Kygo is no stranger to a well-executed collaboration, we know this from the many featured on his debut album Cloud Nine – but lately, it seems the Norwegian producer has been diving deeper into full-on pop star territory.
After scoring his highest-charting single with the help of Selena Gomez on “It Ain’t Me,” Kygo has decided to move forward with his brand new single called: “First Time,” yet another superstar collaboration, this time with Ellie Goulding (her first release since last year’s Bridget Jones’s Baby anthem “Still Falling For You“).
“First Time” is a gorgeous serenade comprised of a minimal melody and Ellie‘s angelic vocals that sees her getting nostoglic as she reminisces about a young love: “Getting drunk on a train track/ Way back, when we tried our first cigarettes/ Ten dollars was a fat stack/ I’d do it all again/ Bought my jacket and a snapback/ Your dad’s black Honda was a Maybach/ Re: Stacks on the playback/ I’d do it all again,” she sings on the hook before it builds slowly towards a stuttered and subdued breakdown.
There’s a lot to love here, but there’s little that surprises. Kygo it’s time to step up your game!
Kygo & Ellie Goulding’s new single “First Time” is also available on Apple Music!
