Here’s a song in behalf of anybody finding theirself… Machine Gun Kelly‘s words, not mine.
After the massive impact of his Camila Cabello-assisted anthem “Bad Things” – which managed to peak at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, the Bad Boy rapper is ready to strike back with his next attempt: “At My Best,” featuring yet another female talent, Miss Hailee Steinfeld!
The coming-of-age empowerment anthem – produced by Happy Perez and Benny Blanco – is, perhaps as to be expected, chock full of statements about embracing your issues and mistakes, not giving up and staying true to yourself: “I wrote this song as a message for help/ On behalf of anybody finding theirself/ I wrote this letter to numb your pain/ ‘Cause everyday I wake up I’m feeling the same,” MGK raps in the song’s opening lines, eventually leading up to Hailee‘s angsty hook: “I shout, I swear, I get angry, I get scared/ I fall, I break, I mess up, I make mistakes/ But if you can’t take me at my worst/ You don’t deserve me at my best.”
Although I get the whole intent behind the song, I can’t help but feel like this is a Kidz Bop take on what Eminem and Rihanna have done in the past with their smash collaborations “Love The Way You Lie” and “Monster.” Will that stop it from becoming another hit for Machine Gun Kelly? Probably not… Oh well… What do you guys think?
