Katy Perry Returns With Lush Dancefloor Anthem, ‘Chained To The Rhythm’!

Turn it up, Katy Perry‘s just dropped your new favorite song!

The last time we heard some music from Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, she was lifting us up with the official anthem for NBC’s 2016 Rio Olympic Games, “Rise“! Since then, she’s kept busy in the recording studio, campaigned heavily for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, has been spotted naked paddle boarding with her boyfriend Orlando Bloom (a blessing) and most recently, launched her very own shoe line.

But she’s back, and on the music side of things again with the much teased Sia-co-penned, Max Martin-produced “Chained To The Rhythm” featuring Bob Marley grandson Skip Marley, the official lead single off of her upcoming fourth studio album, due out later this year – #K4!

The newly blonde diva is straying far away from the rehashed tripping beats of her predecessor and switching it up for a super fun, super disco-inspired banga with an infectious summertime feel, which, if anything, feels like a return to the joyous sounds of Teenage Dream or even an amped up version to Prism single “This Is How We Do.”

Turn it up, it’s your favorite song/ Dance, dance, dance to the distortion/ Turn it up, keep it on repeat/ Stumbling around like a wasted song/ Me? Yeah, we think we’re free/ Drink, this one is on me/ We’re all chained to the rhythm, to the rhythm, to the rhythm,” Katy chants on-top of a lush, propulsive synth-pop pulses. It’s bubbly, catchy as f*ck and very Katy Perry.

Really, this is the perfect move for Katy: Rather than attempting to go towards a more “serious artist” direction like some of her peer, she’s given us perfectly polished dance-ready radio bait, instead – Much needed, if you ask me. Katy plans to perform “Chained To The Rhythm” live for the first time during the 2017 Grammys on Sunday (February 12) – Be sure to tune in!
