Charli XCX is back and she’s ready to PARTY!
Earlier this year, the 24-year-old Brit-pop songstress launched her very own label and released her SOPHIE-produced Vroom Vroom EP, which is still holding strong as one of my favorite EP releases this year. But she’s far from done with giving us some new music — in fact, she’s already got plans to release her third studio album next spring. SLAY!
“After The Afterparty” featuring Lil Yachty, which was also produced by SOPHIE – is the official lead single for round #3. And unlike the more aggressive, experimental-pop stuff of the Vroom Vroom EP, the song sees Charli letting loose and living it up on this almighty speak-singing anthem with a massive, rebelliously fucks-free chorus not all that unlike her very own “Break The Rules” or even Miley Cyrus‘ no-fucks-anthem “We Can’t Stop.”
”Cause after the afterparty, we’re gonna keep it goin’/ We’re gonna rip it up, the neighbors might complain/ ‘Cause after the afterparty, we’re gonna stay ’til mornin’,” Charli declares on the shouty hook over tripping drum loops. “Then when the time is up, we’ll do it all again/ Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah/ We’re all in love.”
As a result, “After The Afterparty” is arguably Charli‘s most radio-friendly track to date since her breakout Fault In Our Stars anthem, “Boom Clap.”
