Mary J. Blige is back y’all!
Just two years after releasing her criminally underrated twelfth studio album The London Sessions, the undisputed Queen of Hip Hop Soul is finally at it again and preparing the imminent release of her thirteenth LP, Strength Of A Woman, which is expected to be released sometime in November.
The “No More Drama” pioneer kicks off the next chapter in her career with the premiere of her super personal lead single, “Thick Of It”! Co-penned by personal fave Jazmine Sullivan, “Thick Of It” is an unapologetically real, breakup anthem driven by a hard-hitting hip hop pulsations and Mary’s signature soaring vocals. “So tell me who/ Who’s gonna love/ You like I do/ Who will you trust,” Mary cries out. “I gave you too much/ Enough is enough/ Now we’re in the thick of it.”
SING IT MAMA! In case you didn’t know, Mary recently filed for divorce from her husband of 12 years, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, so the lyrical theme of this song could NOT be more real. “This song is so personal it’s almost painful to let it out. I don’t hold back though, it’s not who I am and there’s no way I am going to start changing now,” Mary said in a statement. “We all deal with love and the emotions that we get tangled up in, and we gotta survive, grow and remain honest to our best selves. I feel that with this song and it’s the first one off this album I’ve been immersing myself in for 2 years now. Music just saves me no matter what in life is happening.”
Hold on tight, it’s going to be an emotional ride.
