After Diplo and his Major Lazer crew teased a new collaboration with Justin Bieber and MØ months ago, fans and Beliebers clamored for the production’s release – and now the track is here in full thanks to its radio premiere via multiple international markets.
“Cold Water,” which was written in collaboration with Benny Blanco and Ed Sheeran, combines classic Major Lazer dancehall elements alongside a more subdued summery groove than some of their past collaborations. Justin‘s vocals are the core focus of the song, while MØ’s vocal presence provides strong, but subtle, foundational support (mostly on the bridge). “If you feel you’re sinking/ I will jump right over into cold, cold water with you / And although time may take us into different places / I will still be patient with you,” Justin sings on the hook.
The song is kind of what you would expect to come from a Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MØ collaboration, but I don’t think that’s going to stop it from climbing all the way up the charts when its officially released on Friday (July 22). I dig it – What do you guys think?
“Cold Water” is the lead single off Major Lazer’s upcoming album, Music Is the Weapon, which is due out in early 2017.
