‘Misery’: Gwen Stefani Pleads For Help On New ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’ Cut!

Gwen Stefani“‘Listen, I don’t care about anything. I don’t care about hits. I don’t care about anything except for coming in this room (studio) right now… all I want to do is just say the truth. I just want the truth to come out. I just want to be honest and real and I just want to do stuff that represents where I’m at right now,” Gwen Stefani expressed when she first announced the release of her upcoming third solo studio album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like (out March 18). And she’s damn well doing it — and doing it well.

Gwen‘s had a solid streak thus far in the campaign, from her heartbreaking, J.R. Rotem-produced “Used to Love You” to the bright and shimmering pop explosion that is “Make Me Like You.” And now, two singles deep, the No Doubt singer is opening up even more with her latest cut: “Misery“!

Co-penned with Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, as well as her “Used to Love You” supreme pop-crafter J.R. Rotem, Gwen stays true to her quirky singer-songwriter sensibility while opting for a very current “big pop” approach, supplying ample lyrical depth between the stuttering pulsations. “So put me out of my misery/ Hurry up, come see me/ Put me out of my misery/ Hurry up, come see me,” Gwen pleads over the propulsive pop pulse. “Enough, enough of this suffering/ Hurry up, come see me/ Put me out of my misery.”

To no one’s surprise, the song offers up some particularly strong melodies — that “you’re in so much trouble” chant is a undeniable earworm — resulting in some rather soothing musical medicine for anyone going through a break-up. LOVE!
