Beyoncé is BACK and she is here to SLAY, bitch!
It’s been over a year since the re-release of her surprise visual album, Beyoncé. In that time, Queen B has remained pretty quiet on the solo music side of things, emerging only briefly on Nicki Minaj‘s Pinkprint standout “Feeling Myself,” Naughty Boy‘s soulful single “Runnin” and Coldplay‘s “Hymn for the Weekend” off their latest LP A Head Full of Dreams.
With just a day left to go until she hits the stage with Coldplay at 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show, Queen Bey returns with another surprise release: The Big Freedia-sampling “Formation,” produced by Mike WiLL Made-It and co-written by Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee.
“My daddy Alabama, Momma Louisiana/ You mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas bamma/ I like my baby hair, with baby hair and afros/ I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils/ Earned all this money but they never take the country out me/ I got hot sauce in my bag, swag,” she brags in the songs fierce opening lines. And then, she really goes in like a straight up BOSS on the hook: “I see it, I want it/ I stunt, yeah, little hornet/ I dream it, I work hard/ I grind ‘til I own it/ I twirl all my haters/ Albino alligators/ El Camino with the ceiling low/ Sippin’ Cuervo with no chaser/ Sometimes I go off, I go off/ I go hard, I go hard/ Get what’s mine, take what’s mine/ I’m a star, I’m a star/ Cause I slay, slay/ I slay, hey, I slay, okay.”
The song also comes with its own ***flawlessly-stunning music video, which was shot in New Orleans. The five-minute clip, a proud homage to being black #BlackLivesMatter, opens with Bey on top of a cop car floating in a flooded street post Hurricane Katrina. She dances in a mansion and in an empty pool, rides out the car window with a long set of braids, and throws up the middle finger for all her “haters”. Her daughter Blue Ivy even makes an adorable cameo – It’s just so very good, even I can’t clock it.
The song is available for free download on TIDAL – GET INTO IT!
