It’s time to get familiar with Washington Heights native Natalie Ann Yepez, or Maluca, as she’s known now.
Maluca hails from Diplo‘s Mad Decent label — home of Elliphant, Liz, Bauuer, Crookers, Rusko and a whole bunch of other dancehall, moombahton and techno acts. That’s not really shocking to hear when considering Maluca‘s music, she’s providing nothing but straight-up, hot-fire off-the-walls, twerk-filled anthems herself! I mean.. have you not heard “El Tigeraso” and “Trigger“?
After collaborating with Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique last year on “Love Is Free,” the rising songstress has decided to put the focus back on her own music with the release of “Mala,” (“bad” or “mean” girl in Spanish) the lead single off her upcoming MALA EP.
The K.R.O.S.S.-helmed number is a firey dose of dancehall-tinged electro-pop that puts her NYC/Dominican roots at the forefront. “I wrote the record as a way to highlight all the negative things people told me about myself,” Maluca told V magazine. “You have bad hair, you’re crazy, you’re too tough…and embrace them. Yes, my hair is nappy and I look like a witch and I’m crazy, but you love it! I’ve had self-esteem issues for many years and now that I’m in my 30s I’m just really fucking feeling myself.” A very promising taste of whats to come, for sure – GET INTO IT!
